The books take place in a superhero universe, full of aliens, magic, and so on, but the stories themselves are often about the ordinary people who live in this world, or about rookie heroes trying to find their place in it. For more information on this series, check out the dedicated website at www.jackandmiraclegirl.com. Playground Noir is a collection of six short mystery stories starring Pip Fencer, a fourth-grade detective, which are set in the 1980's and which are written in an amusingly hard-boiled style, reminiscent of Raymond Chandler and Ross Macdonald. You can learn more about the book here. This is a fantasy trilogy I started writing in 2019, which takes place in a world reminscent of late 18th century Europe, but with an alchemical twist (you might call it a gaslamp or flintlock fantasy). The first book, The Demon in the Metal, was released in March 2020; the second book, The Brassfire Fleet, was released in April 2021, and the third book, A City Burnished Silver, was released in October 2022. The first book, Sam Fortune and the Wisdom of the Ancients, was released in 2018; the sequel, Sam Fortune and the Hazards of the Game, was released in early 2024. The Azuraan series follows the adventures of a group of orphans living in a huge, gloomy, enclosed city called Azuraan; the protagonist is Lan, a boy who seems to have lost his memories. These are whimsical, lighthearted fantasy novellas, each about 20,000-25,000 words. I originally planned to write ten of these stories, but no one really seemed all that interested in the series, and I eventually decided to set it aside. So Azuraan is currently incomplete and currently on hiatus. |
