NEWS AND VIEWS - JUNE 2024
I finished writing City of Strange Gods this month -- this is the tenth Signalverse novel, and at 95,000 words (close to 400 pages), the longest one I've written so far. It'll probably be available in a few months.
I've also settled on my next project -- it's going to be a lighthearted, episodic fantasy/romance, about a "heroic" swordsman and an "evil" sorceress who find out that they have more in common than they realize. I don't have a title yet, but I have the plot worked out and most of the worldbuilding done. I may or may not serialize it on Royal Road.
I don't know what I'll be writing after that. Last month I talked about wanting to write another Signalverse adventure, Special Squad E, but although I love the series and this whole world I've created, I've been thinking more and more about stepping away from the Signalverse, maybe permanently. The series has never really found an audience, and I think a lot of people are starting to get sick of superheroes nowadays anyway. The fact that I'm ten books into the series now is another factor -- although most of the Signalverse books stand on their own, a lot of readers are going to pass on a series this long. Ten books starts to look a little daunting.
I've talked about giving up on the Signalverse before, though, and I've always come back to it, so who knows.
Apart from the writing stuff, it's been a quiet month here. Started reading Buddy Levy's Empire of Ice and Stone, started playing Unicorn Overlord, and started watching a couple of new Korean dramas: Doctor Slump and The Atypical Family. Also rearranged my entertainment setup, mowed the lawn a bunch of times, played fetch with the dog, got a haircut, and slept through half a dozen thunderstorms. Summer.
