NEWS AND VIEWS - DECEMBER 2024
And that pretty much does it for the year, huh?
As usual, I don't have too much to report here. I'm still working on Lillandra, of course -- I've got about fifteen or twenty chapters left to write, give or take, which means I'll probably finish it in March or maybe April of next year. And I've been working on a detailed outline for Special Squad E (the next Signalverse book) but I haven't decided whether I'm actually going to write this thing or not.
Honestly, this has been a pretty disappointing year for me, as far as the writing goes. I released two books this year, Sam Fortune and the Hazards of the Game and City of Strange Gods, but neither of them have sold very well -- in fact City of Strange Gods hasn't even sold ten copies yet, which is a new low for the Signalverse series. As for Lillandra...well, like I mentioned last month, very few people seem to be reading it.
Maybe things will turn around next year. After I finish Lillandra next spring, I'm probably going to write a Playground Noir novella, and then...well, we'll see. Maybe I'll jump back into the Signalverse, maybe I'll write another fantasy, maybe I'll give up on writing and find myself another hobby. Anything can happen.
Anyway, here's something I threw together with AI that I thought turned out pretty neat: a cover for a Star Society comic. For those of you who aren't fully caught up on their Signalverse lore (and that would be pretty much everybody) the Star Society was a team of space-faring adventurers who used to fight aliens and stuff back in the 1960's.
There's some odd stuff here, like her weirdo fingers and vacantly silly expression (all of which could probably be fixed with some inpainting), but it's still pretty neat, I think.
Oh, and I had a nice Christmas. Ate a lot of good food, got a lot of nice presents, watched a lot of Christmas shows and specials. I usually watch The Star Wars Holiday Special around Christmas, but I skipped it this year; I think I'm finally burned out on it (those Bea Arthur scenes are torture). I did watch the Mexican Santa Claus movie (the MST3K episode), though, which I don't think I'll ever get sick of.
See you in a month!
