NEWS AND VIEWS - DECEMBER 2025
And that does it for 2025.
I wrote about 245,000 words this year. I finished a long serialized fantasy novel, Lillandra, wrote a new Signalverse novel (Signal Solutions), completed four new Signalverse short stories, and started writing a new serial, Hardcore, in August, which hit 75,000 words this month. I also wrote a ton of new stuff for The Complete Guide to the Signalverse and started (but haven't yet finished) several additional short stories.
So I've done a lot of writing this year. None of these projects have really succeeded liked I'd hoped, but whatever. Soldiering on...
I decided to take a bit of a break this month, but I'll be getting back into it in January, with more chapters of Hardcore. Looking ahead...well, I'd like to write another Signalverse novel next spring/summer, but I don't have any plans beyond that. I have outlines for two new fantasies, one of which started out as a script for a visual novel, but trying to get people interested in self-published fantasy novels is very, very difficult, and the market is so crowded with this kind of thing now that I'm not sure it's worth the effort.
I could write another Sam Fortune book or another set of Playground Noir mysteries, but readers seem even less interested in these, and these books are harder to write besides -- Sam Fortune because the series is set in the 1920s, and sometimes requires research, and Playground Noir because I don't really have a knack for coming up with clever whodunnit-style plots.
So unless something changes, I'll probably be sticking with the Signalverse. Which is okay -- I like writing Signalverse books. I do wish the series was more popular, but I suppose that's the dream of every author.
Anyway, I hope everyone had a great year. And if you didn't...hey, there's always next year, right?
See you next month!
