NEWS AND VIEWS - OCTOBER 2026
Happy Halloween!
Added about 25,000 words to Special Squad EX this month. Most Signalverse books run between 40,000-55,000 words, so this is a pretty good start; I'm on track to finish the novel by mid-December. And I'm pretty satisfied with it so far.
But it wasn't a great month for me. Various minor health problems, the usual insomnia, unseasonably warm weather...it's been kind of a slog. (You'd think, as a Minnesotan, that I'd welcome warm weather, but when the weather is warm in September/October it brings the bugs out in massive numbers, especially the Asian lady beetles, which have been swarming like crazy all month.) Also, about a week ago, I accidentally burned up three hard drives while trying to upgrade an old PC -- I didn't lose any data, because I always have everything backed up six ways from Tuesday, but storage is expensive these days and it was a very stupid and costly mistake.
As far as my future writing plans...well, I'll be working on Special Squad EX for most of the rest of the year. Next year I'm planning on stepping away from the Signalverse for a while -- I'll probably get a few short stories in, but I'm mainly going to be working on other projects: Grim's Company (dark fantasy), Kaizer Model X (giant robots), and Gunman's Oath (steampunk fantasy with a Western flavor). I expect all of these books to run pretty short (Kaizer Model X and Gunman's Oath will both kick off new trilogies), so I'm hoping to be able to fit them all into next year.
But that's all I've got. Have a great November, everybody!
